  1. What does a roomster membership cost?  [top]

    Creating a profile on Roomster.net is free. This "Basic Membership" allows you to search , post & contact all our members for free. This type of account get you access to roommates throughout the U.S, Canada & U.K There are thousands of members at all times in most cities. You can hot list members who you like, receive notice of waiting messages to your email address and search using all our proprietary tools. Ask your friends to write you testimonials to add to your profile and to better introduce yourself to the community send interest and emails to anyone you want, as well as use our IM to chat with anyone on Roomster who happens to be online when you are. This is all included in the Free "Basic Membership".

    "Full Membership" gets you all the functionality that a "Basic Membership" plus access to a safe and secure private mailbox on Roomster.net. "Full Membership" rates are flexible. Rates start at $5.95 for 3 days of full access, $14.95 for 2 weeks of full access, $29.95 for 4 weeks of full access. All subscriptions are automatically renewed to ensure uninterrupted access to your subscription (a 3 day trial subscription is renewed for additional 30 days for $29.95 and continues to be renewed every 30 days until canceled, a 2 week trial subscription is renewed for additional 30 days for $29.95 and continues to be renewed every 30 days until canceled, a 4 week trial subscription is renewed for additional 30 days for $29.95 and continues to be renewed every 30 days until canceled). as per the Terms Of Use.



  2. How/when do I close my account?  [top]

    You can close your Roomster.net "Basic Membership" or "Full Membership" at anytime. To close your account and hide your profile from member search results, click the “close my account” link. This will also end all billing. If you want to keep your profile active, but want to cancel future billing click the "cancel my premium membership” link. Both the “close my account" & the “cancel my premium membership” links are located under the "my account" tab found on your logged in home page. Once a "Premium Membership" account gets closed all future billing ends. All inactive accounts can be re-activated at anytime in the future. All Sales are final and all Roomster accounts must be closed by the member, we do not accept cancellations by email.



  3. How long will my profile remain active?  [top]

    Both types of Memberships can remain active as long as you need our services and want to be part of the community. When you've found a roommate or are no longer in need of our services you can close your account. Until you close your account "Full Memberships" will automatically be renewed at the monthly rate. Close your account to stop all services and automatic renewals. The "close account" link is located under the "my account" tab on your logged in home page.



  4. I used PayPal and would like to deactivate my membership. What do I need to do? [top]

    Paypal does not allow vendor sites access to customer information, so you are required to close your roomster.net subscription in your paypal account. After you click the "close account" link on the roomster.net site we immediately direct you to your paypal account where you can cancel your roomster.net subscription.



  5. Do you keep my personal information private? [top]

    We will not post your name, address, phone number, or e-mail address anywhere on the Roomster.net site, unless you enter this information in non sanctioned areas, such as in the username field. We recommend that you not divulge this information until you feel comfortable with your potential roommates. Additionally, we will never disclose or sell your personal information to outside parties.



  6. I am having problems logging in. What do I do? [top]

    On the login page there is a "forgot your password?" link. This link brings you to the "forgot password page". To use this feature, enter the email address you used when setting up your roomster.net account and press continue. Roomster.net will send your username and password to this email address only. Delivery time should be under 1 minute.



  7. What is apts-to-share? [top]

    Apts-to-share is an alternative to traditional roommate matching, it is easy to use and creates more possibilities. Truth be told, 90% of people looking for roommates do not have rooms, this creates a huge imbalance. Apts-to-share was designed to fill the gap and create more possibilities by matching two roommates who need rooms and offer them available rental apartments that they can share.



  8. Where do apts-to-share apartments come from? [top]

    Apts-to-share gets its apartment inventory from our other site, Flatster.net. Flatster is an online community that connects people looking for apartments, sublets and temporary housing with the people that have them. Flatster features 100% user supplied content. Flatster is dedicated to offering fresh, unbiased representations of the rental market.



  9. I think I am being scammed by a suspicious user on Roomster. What do I need to do? [top]

    Although we try to remove all scammers on Roomster via our Flagging system, We ask you to be aware of:
    distant roommate offers a high-value (but fake) cashier's check.
    distant roommate requests payment via Western Union or MoneyGram
    distant roommate offers to send you a cashier's check and then have you wire money
    distant roommate suggests use of an online escrow service
    people offering rooms and apartments to rent asking for upfront wire transfers before they send you the keys, but the keys never come

  10. How do I notify Roomster of an unethical or inappropriate profile? [top]

    If you think that there is an unethical profile on Roomster.net, try our new Flagging system. Unethical profiles may include, celebrity, nude or fake photos, hate language, other roommate services, commercial postings, spammers and scammers. As soon as you "Flag" a profile we will investigate the questioned profile. If the profile is found to be unethical we will remove it.



  11. Why can't I search or filter results based on sexual preference? [top]

    Roomster does not contain any matching or filtering solution based on race, religion, or familial status. We do not encourage our users to post notices expressing preferences for roommates based on sex, race, religion and sexual orientation. Fair housing -- it's your right.
